Maitland PCYC Judo Club

The Maitland PCYC Judo Club, located in Maitland, New South Wales, is a sports club with a rich history dating back to 1952. The club was originally established as the Police Boys Club, with the support of the then Commissioner of Police Mr. W J Mackay and the Rotary Club of Sydney. Over the years, the club has grown and evolved, offering a wide range of activities and programmes for the community.

One of the club's main focuses is judo. The club has recently introduced a martial arts centre, offering judo classes to 50 students per week. In fact, the club has already attracted attention from the Japanese national Judo team, who visited for a training exhibition in August. In addition to judo, the club also offers other martial arts disciplines such as wrestling, Aikido, and Jiu-Jitsu.

Apart from martial arts, the club provides a range of other activities and programmes. The club has a strong competitive gymnastics programme, allowing gymnasts to compete at country and state championships. They also offer gymnastics and fitness classes for recreational purposes. The recently expanded gymnastic facility allows for an increase in participation, with over 700 visits per week.

The Multi-Function Hall at the club has undergone renovations to better cater to children's activities, school groups, and organised sporting competitions. The club also conducts over 75 Safer Driver and Traffic Offender Courses throughout the year, aiming to promote safe driving practises in the community. Additionally, the club offers OOSH (Out of School Hours) care services during holiday periods, providing affordable and qualified care for children.

The Maitland PCYC Judo Club is not only dedicated to providing quality activities and programmes but also focuses on the development and support of their team members. The team consists of fully qualified and experienced individuals who follow the Gymnastics NSW code of conduct and accreditation. They also offer opportunities for individuals interested in coaching gymnastics, providing training and support to become accredited coaches.

As a PCYC club, Maitland PCYC Judo Club is supported by the broader PCYC organisation in New South Wales. PCYC is the largest provider of gymnastics in the state and is committed to creating positive experiences for young people.
