Lochaber Yacht Club

John, the organiser at Lochaber Yacht Club, extends a warm welcome to the sports community. Nestled in Fort William, the Outdoor Capital of the UK, Lochaber Yacht Club offers fantastic sailing adventures on the beautiful Loch Linnhe.

Founded in 1954, the club boasts a rich history and a dedicated membership. John is keen to invite new members, whether you're eager to learn how to sail or simply enjoy being out on the water. The club sails from April to September, and members gather every Thursday from 10 am to 12 pm for maintenance.

As an accredited RYA training centre, the club offers various sailing courses and powerboat training to ensure member safety and skill development. John believes in promoting progression within the club, offering opportunities for racing events, cruising trips, and informative talks during the winter.

The well-equipped clubhouse is the hub of social activity. Throughout the year, John organises events, including a Fitting Out Supper, regular BBQs, Christmas socials, and more. These events provide a great chance to connect with fellow sailing enthusiasts.

The club is conveniently located within walking distance of Fort William's town centre and railway station, offering ample amenities like a private car park, slipway for boat launching, personal boat storage, and scenic views of Loch Linnhe.

John welcomes visitors to join the sailing adventures. Visitors can participate in events, whether they have their own boat or wish to borrow one. Please note that charges apply for the use of facilities, and further information is available through the club’s Secretary via email or phone.

For boaters, the club provides two visitor moorings with daily fees, and longer stays can be arranged by contacting the Achintore Moorings Owners Association (AMOA). Additionally, the Fort William Marina and Shoreline Community Interest have a pontoon for yachts and small cruisers. Details can be found on their website.

If you need fuel or water, there is a filling station at Morrison's supermarket in town for diesel, or water can be arranged at the sailing club.
