Llanrwst Anglers Club is pleased to invite both local and visiting anglers to join us for an exciting fishing event on the prime lower section of the River Conwy. With a history dating back to 1933, our club has a proud angling heritage and is well-known for its remarkable catches over the years.
One of the most memorable moments for our club was in 1954 when Mr. Hughes caught a salmon weighing over 40lbs, setting a record that still stands today. The River Conwy is renowned for its large sea trout and was once home to the largest rod-caught British sea trout, weighing an impressive 21lbs 8oz. Although we haven't seen fish of that size recently, our waters regularly yield salmon up to 20lbs and sea trout over 10lbs.
For the best fishing experience, we recommend heading to the area just above the upstream tidal limit. This spot allows sea trout to access our waters during most tides, making it an excellent location for night fishing. July and August are particularly exciting months for sea trout fishing, but don't be disheartened if you plan to visit in September as we've seen good numbers of fresh fish running during that time in recent years.
When the mountains of Snowdonia receive rainfall, the Conwy river rises, attracting salmon. Fly-fishing enthusiasts will find their best chances from July to October, with plenty of opportunities to reel in some impressive catches. Additionally, Llyn Bodgynydd offers fishing for wild brown trout, and while the River Conwy isn't especially famous for brown trout, there are reasonable numbers present, including some that grow over 2lbs.
At Llanrwst Anglers Club, we pride ourselves on offering affordable membership options as well as day and weekly tickets for fishing. As you cast your line along the river bank, take a moment to appreciate the abundant wildlife that calls our club's surroundings home. Spotting kingfishers, dippers, grey wagtails, peregrine falcons, buzzards, and, if you're lucky, catching a glimpse of a nightjar at dusk can make your fishing experience even more memorable.
Visiting anglers will find plenty of accommodation options in Llanrwst and the surrounding towns and villages, ensuring a comfortable stay during your time with us. And if you're looking to extend your stay, Snowdonia National Park offers a range of activities for the whole family to enjoy.
For more information or any advice you may need, please don't hesitate to contact Jonny Cawley, our club secretary. We look forward to welcoming you to the Llanrwst Anglers Club for an unforgettable fishing event on the River Conwy.
