About

Lilley Cricket Club, founded in the mid-1890s, is one of the oldest cricket clubs in the UK, based in Luton on the Bedfordshire-Hertfordshire border. John Smith, the organiser, celebrates its rich heritage, having grown from a humble beginning with an old caravan as the clubhouse.

In the 1980s, Lilley CC had the honour of hosting the England Ladies team and former West Indies Captain Clive Lloyd. The club earned notable recognition, being featured as the 'Club of the Month' in Wisden Cricketer magazine and 'Club of the Week' on Sky Sports Cricket AM in 2010.

Playing in the Broadview Windows North Herts Cricket League on Sundays and partaking in various T20 competitions during the summer, Lilley CC boasts a dedicated and strong team aiming for success on the field. 🏏

The picturesque Geoff Banks-Smith Memorial Cricket Ground in Lilley offers a beautiful setting for matches. Despite the original wooden pavilion being destroyed by fire in 1998, extensive fundraising efforts led to the construction of a modern facility at the ground's East end.

Lilley Cricket Club, deeply rooted in the community, welcomes players of all skill levels. Winter nets are held on Thursday nights at Challney Boys School, providing an opportunity for current and former players to prepare for the upcoming season.

John Smith ensures the club also organises various social events throughout the year, fostering camaraderie and unity among its members. Proud of its history and commitment to cricket, Lilley CC invites all cricket enthusiasts to join and share the passion. For more information, visit their website or contact them directly.
