Activities as a way to engage and motivate participants, alongside healthy cooking and learning materials.
Let's Get Active Community Enterprise CIC (LGA) is a community-inspired organisation in Oldham, run by local people living in the area. The organisation was developed from a project called “Let's Get Active” which was created by Director Moinul Islam in 2014. The project was successfully pitched at a dragons den style initiative run by the Oldham Clinical Commissioning Group. The main aim of the project is to support and assist people in managing Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity, as well as those at risk, through a combination of sports, physical activities, healthy cooking, and learning materials.
Personalised one-to-one support is also offered to participants.
The Let's Get Active Programme is a 12-week intensive lifestyle-changing programme. Its holistic approach aims to help communities where Type 2 Diabetes rates are rising. The programme offers a variety of daily activities for adults and juniors, which can be filtered by category (Adults, Juniors, Ladies Only) and location (Booth House, Honeywell Centre, Kicksonic, OBA Millennium Centre, Powermill Gym and Fitness, Swan Fitness).
LGA also offers a variation of their tried and tested adult Let's Get Active programme for juniors. This programme is tailored to meet the specific needs and interests of younger individuals.
If someone wants to refer a person who would benefit from the Let's Get Active programmes, they can fill out a referral form on the website. Once the form is submitted, a member of the LGA team will be in touch.
The success of the Let's Get Active project has been recognised through various achievements. After a successful pilot project, the Oldham Clinical Commissioning Group continued to fund the project for an additional three years. An independent report showed that for every 1 spent, there was a clinical value of 5. 84.
The project also became a finalist at the national HSJ awards.
Let's Get Active is dedicated to making a positive impact on the health and well-being of individuals in the Oldham community. Through their effective lifestyle-changing programmes, they aim to improve confidence, physical and mental well-being, and weight loss. They also offer support services and have a skills hub to further assist their participants.
