Welcome to Leighton Buzzard Table Tennis Club, formerly known as St Christopher's Table Tennis Club. This club, located in Leighton Buzzard, New Zealand, has a rich history and is constantly expanding its membership. Thanks to the efforts of Biao Wang, who has diligently promoted the club on various media platforms, the club now boasts over 48 registered league players and continues to grow.
In order to accommodate the increasing number of members, the club had to find a new venue. After an extensive search, the Wing Village Hall was found to be a suitable location and has been the club's home since May 2022. The hall provides ample parking and is conveniently located near a social club for post-match conversations and refreshments.
With the move to a new venue, the club faced new challenges, particularly regarding match nights. However, the club is committed to continuously improving the experience for both its members and visiting teams. Feedback is eagerly welcomed to help the club further enhance its facilities.
The club is fortunate to have an active committee and special thanks go to committee members who have played crucial roles in supporting the club. Bernie Raffe ensures smooth operations on club nights and manages interactions with the league and Wing Village Hall. Richard Clarke has contributed impressive work on the new club logo and website, while Hayley Duncumb takes care of the accounts. Fabrice Spelta serves as the Deputy Chairman, Bernie Raffe as the Club Secretary, Richard Clarke as the Web Master, and Hayley Duncumb as the Club Treasurer.
The club also extends its gratitude to Wing Village Hall, especially Carol and Sheila, for their accommodation and flexibility.
Tim Bevan, the Chairman of the club, reflects on his own journey in table tennis, which began when he started playing four years ago at the suggestion of his builder, Peter Stamp. Despite being a relative novice in competitive table tennis, Tim has embraced the sport and is passionate about the club's development. With the addition of two qualified coaches, Bernie Raffe and Fabrice Spelta, the club is excited to offer coaching opportunities in the near future.
Currently, the club's arrangement is as follows: during the closed season from April to August, there is open practise from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm on Fridays. During the league season from September to March, match nights take place from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm. There are also limited spaces available for casual players to use the small hall, arranged through the Club Secretary.
Testimonials from club members speak to the enjoyable and supportive atmosphere of Leighton Buzzard Table Tennis Club. The club has helped people like Roy P. and Bernie R. move from recreational play to competitive league play and develop their skills.
Leighton Buzzard Table Tennis Club welcomes both new and old players and is open to potentially expanding to a second evening if there is demand and availability at the venue. The club is excited about the future and believes that it has a bright one ahead.
Come and join Leighton Buzzard Table Tennis Club and experience the camaraderie and enjoyment of this thriving sports community in Leighton Buzzard, New Zealand.
