Law Society Yacht Club, established in 1952, is a prestigious yacht club in London that caters specifically to solicitors, legal executives, their families, and trainees. The club has a long-standing tradition of organising yacht racing and cruising events, proudly flying the golden shark burgee of the LSYC.
The Law Society Yacht Club warmly welcomes new members and their families from the legal profession. It provides a unique opportunity for professionals in the industry to come together and enjoy the thrilling experience of sailing.
One of the notable events organised by the Law Society Yacht Club is the Industry Sailing Challenge in Cowes, which took place in 1994. The club continues to host various sailing events, with the upcoming 2023 season offering exciting opportunities for members to participate.
In April 2023, the club chartered the Gaff Rigged Cutter Golden Vanity for a Solent Weekend cruise. This stunning vessel, built in 1908, provided an unforgettable experience for all those involved. Later in May, there will be a West Coast of Scotland Cruise organised by Michael Cross. This week-long cruise will explore the picturesque Isle of Mull and its surrounding areas, offering breathtaking scenery, exceptional restaurants, and distilleries to visit.
Members of the Law Society Yacht Club can also look forward to the Members' club day at Sea View YC on the Isle of Wight in September. This event aims to bring members together and enhance their sailing skills using classic small yachts called Mermaids. The cost per person is reasonable, and expressions of interest can be submitted to Finbarr via the LSYC WhatsApp Group.
Furthermore, the Law Society Yacht Club annually competes against the Bar Yacht Club in an exciting sailing match. This tradition dates back to the mid-1950s, and since 2016, the match has taken place at Seaview Yacht Club using Mermaids. The competition has seen fierce but friendly rivalry over the years, with both clubs achieving a fair share of victories.
Law Society Yacht Club has gained significant attention from publications such as the Law Society Gazette, which has featured the club in various articles and press releases. The club values its strong presence in the legal community and continues to expand its membership base.
