
Kyokutan Karate Club, located in Darlington, has been a leading martial arts school since 1997, specialising in shotokan karate. The club operates on a “pay-as-you-train” basis, with no monthly fees or direct debits, making it accessible to all individuals who are passionate about learning karate. For juniors, training sessions are held on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:45 pm to 6:45 pm in the Dining Hall. Senior training sessions take place on Thursdays from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Dining Hall. The club is committed to providing a safe and supportive training environment, fostering personal growth and development for all students.
The club also offers a comprehensive calendar of training sessions, including both junior and senior sessions, allowing individuals to plan their training effectively. Additionally, Kyokutan Karate holds regular gradings, providing students with opportunities to showcase their progress and earn new ranks within the organisation. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, specific details regarding gradings and competitions for 2021 are yet to be determined.
Kyokutan Karate boasts a team of dedicated and experienced instructors, led by Chief Instructor Sensei Alan Wears, who holds a remarkable 7th Dan. Sensei Alan's extensive experience in karate, coupled with his passion for teaching and inspiring others, has been instrumental in the success of the club. He is not only a nationally qualified coach and coach assessor but also a qualified referee for national competitions.
The senior instructor, Sensei John Smith, holds a 6th Dan and has been an integral part of the Kyokutan Karate Club since its early days. Sensei John's coaching expertise and commitment to helping students achieve their best has greatly contributed to the progression of numerous students through their ranks.
Furthermore, Sensei Lee Scott, a 3rd Dan instructor, brings his extensive training and teaching experience to the club, further enriching the learning environment and ensuring students receive the highest quality instruction.
