Kofukan Karate Australia – Kalgoorlie Dojo, also known as Kofukan Kalgoorlie, is a highly reputable martial arts club located in South Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. The club is part of the larger Kofukan Karate Australia organisation, which follows the traditional Shito-ryu Karate-do style as passed down by the Okinawan karate masters. All instructors at Kofukan Karate Australia have undergone rigorous training and assessment by the internationally renowned Chief Instructor, Shihan Keiji Tomiyama (9th Dan).
At Kofukan Kalgoorlie, students of all ages can benefit from the comprehensive self-defence training provided. The club places great emphasis on equipping students with effective and functional self-defence techniques, as well as teaching situational awareness, strategies for dealing with bullies, and methods for extricating oneself from non-consensual contact. Furthermore, Kofukan Karate helps students develop the necessary skills for self-preservation in the face of violence.
In addition to self-defence training, Kofukan Karate instils confidence and discipline in its students. The club encourages individuals to overcome their fears and feelings of embarrassment, fostering an environment where self-assurance can flourish. Respect and self-control are also core values emphasised in the dojo.
Kofukan Karate offers a diverse range of classes tailored to different age groups, ensuring that everyone can participate and enjoy the fun and fitness benefits the martial art provides. For younger kids, instructors incorporate karate-based games into their classes, making the learning experience engaging and enjoyable. Apart from the great sense of enjoyment that karate brings, it is also an excellent way to build stamina, strength, and flexibility.
Kofukan Kalgoorlie is just one of the club's nine dojos, which are spread across Perth's southern suburbs, the Mandurah area, regional Western Australia (Kalgoorlie), and even Hervey Bay in Queensland. Although the dojos are run by five independent clubs, they all share a common affiliation with Kofukan International, a global network of Kofukan Karate clubs.
The club is actively involved in the martial arts community and is a proud member of the West Australian Karate Federation (WAKF). This membership allows Kofukan Karate Australia students to participate in state tournaments and seminars organised by the WAKF, enabling them to expand their skills and knowledge.
Kofukan Kalgoorlie has achieved the prestigious recognition of being Gold Medal accredited by Good Sports, Australia's largest community health sports programme. This affiliation highlights the club's commitment to promoting a safe and inclusive environment for its members.
