Jonathan here, organiser and dedicated member of Kingston Rowing Club. He wanted to share a bit about what makes the club so special. Established in 1858, Kingston Rowing Club stands proudly on the River Thames, right between Kingston Bridge and Teddington Lock. It's a place with over 7 kilometres of calm, non-tidal water—perfect for rowing.
Jonathan has seen the club build a strong reputation over the years. The rowers here have not only competed but excelled in both domestic and international competitions. Whether you're just starting out or have years of experience, Kingston Rowing Club is all about inclusivity. Everyone's welcome to join and thrive.
The club opens its arms to rowers of all ages and genders. Whether you're aiming to compete or simply want to enjoy the beauty of rowing on the Thames, there’s a spot for you. The coaches are committed to giving top-notch instruction and support, no matter your skill level.
If you’re new to rowing, Jonathan recommends the Learn to Row programmes. These sessions cover everything: from the basics of rowing and water safety to mastering the rowing stroke both indoors and on the river. For those aged 11-18, there’s a specific course designed to be both fun and engaging. While completing the course doesn’t guarantee a spot in the junior squad, it’s a great way to get started, and membership is offered based on selection criteria.
Rest assured, all coaches at Kingston Rowing Club are CRB checked and qualified under British Rowing standards.
But rowing isn’t the only thing that makes the club special. The clubhouse, located at Canbury Boathouse on Lower Ham Road, Kingston upon Thames, is a gem. With floor-to-ceiling windows and a large open-air balcony, it’s a fantastic place for special events, offering stunning river views and a charming atmosphere.
