Hey Team,
John here, the organiser of Kenseikai East London Dojo. As you may know, Kenseikai East London is part of the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai International Division UK Shibu and it's a great spot for anyone interested in Iaido, Kendo, and Jodo. Whether you're a newbie or a seasoned martial artist, everyone's welcome.
A bit of history - the dojo was founded back in 1979 by the late Okimitsu Fujii Hanshi. He made a huge impact on the development of Kendo and Iaido in the UK, even coaching the British National Team to win big at the 1st World and European Kendo Championships.
At Kenseikai East London, we focus on Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu Iaido, a style that goes back about 450 years. It's all about mental presence and quick reactions. We also dive deep into Kendo, the art of Japanese swordsmanship that teaches discipline through the use of a katana. Jodo, which involves combat against the katana, is another key area we train in. Some of its techniques are even used in Japanese law enforcement.
If you're curious to try it out, your first class is on the house. We're at The Langley Hall at St Nicholas Church, Aberfeldy Village, London E14 0PU. Our classes run on Thursday evenings - Kendo from 19:15-20:30, Jodo from 20:00-21:30, and Iaido from 20:45-22:00.
Class fees are pretty straightforward: £7 per session (pay as you go), £25 monthly for one martial art, £40 monthly for Iaido and Kendo combined, plus a £10 annual insurance cover.
Got any questions or ready to join? Drop us an email at [email protected] or call us on 07977 560 849 for Iaido and Kendo, and 01753 817 898 for Jodo. Our amazing instructors - France Empeigne, Sarino D'oro, Sam Winder, and Prof. John Wilson 'Bilal' - are always here to help out.
Looking forward to seeing you on the mat!
Cheers,
John
