Kairos Martial Arts | Self Protection is a martial arts school located in Retford, Bassetlaw. With a focus on community and wellbeing, Kairos offers a welcoming and studious environment where individuals are encouraged to leave their differences at the door. Whether you are looking to get fit and have fun, overcome personal challenges, arm your child with confidence and skills to defend against bullying, or experience high-class training with a more realistic approach, Kairos Martial Arts has a class to suit your needs.

As a community Interest Company, the wellbeing of our students is our top priority. We provide a place to study combat arts and techniques, helping individuals find their strengths while improving upon their weaknesses. Currently, there is a waiting list for all classes, and interested individuals are encouraged to get in touch to be added to the list.

At Kairos Martial Arts, we offer a range of classes and training options. For men and women of all skill levels, we have beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes available. Our self-defence and combatives classes focus on real-world scenarios and pressure testing. We also offer training in urban weaponry, with private and semi-private sessions available for those who wish to book in advance.

Additionally, we provide seminars, children's self-defence classes (ages 6+), children's sparring, anti-bullying and scenario training, family events, and personal safety awareness programmes.

At Kairos, we pride ourselves on offering a “real” style of martial arts. We prioritise self-defence and training techniques that are designed to cause damage to an attacker, with the goal of stopping them in their tracks. However, safety is always a priority, and students are partnered with individuals who have similar training philosophies. Bag and pad work, as well as partner training, are also incorporated into the classes.

Students are encouraged to take from the classes what they need and feel comfortable with. The instructors and students at Kairos Martial Arts are known for their patience, encouragement, and commitment to creating a respectful and supportive training environment. If anyone feels daunted by the training, they are encouraged to have a chat with the instructors beforehand to discuss any concerns and find ways to tailor the training to their needs.

Kairos Martial Arts is led by Chief Instructor Simon Fell, who has over 25 years of training in various martial arts disciplines such as Wing Chun, Kickboxing, Silat, JKD, and BJJ. He is a certified instructor in KFM (Keysi Fighting Method) and Urban Krav Maga, as well as a Mittmaster technical pad training specialist and Phil Early's Kettlebell coach at level 1. Simon is also trained in KEWAP (Knife & Edged Weapons Awareness Programme) and serves as a Fighting for Autism coach ambassador. The school is affiliated with the British Combat Association and the Martial Arts Alliance, ensuring high-quality training and standards.

All instructors have undergone full DBS checks for the safety and wellbeing of our students.
