The Mildura Swimming Club, located in Mildura Rural City, is excited to promote its upcoming local swimming event at the Mildura Waves Aquatic & Leisure Centre. This event is specifically for our Junior Squad, a progressive swimming program designed for young swimmers eager to further develop their skills.
To be eligible for the Junior Squad, swimmers must have already completed the Junior Transition Squad and received recommendations from our experienced coaching panel. In this squad, swimmers will focus on enhancing their body position, technique, and discipline while also building stamina, perseverance, and endurance.
To join our Junior Squad, swimmers should have a solid understanding of all four competitive swimming strokes and be able to complete 100m freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and 50m butterfly under FINA rules. Additionally, they should feel comfortable performing a tumble turn and confidently diving off a block.
Our training sessions take place at the Mildura Waves Aquatic & Leisure Centre. We expect swimmers to attend two sessions per week, with each session lasting approximately one hour. The primary goal of these sessions is to improve technique and speed to meet the required level set by our coaching panel. Swimmers who can confidently compete in distances listed on the Victorian Country Qualifying Times document for their age group will also be considered.
As part of the Junior Squad, swimmers are responsible for bringing their own equipment, including a kickboard, flippers, pull buoy, equipment bag, bathers, drink bottle, goggles, and club cap. We also have certain training expectations in place, such as attending training on specified nights, notifying the coach in advance if unable to attend a session, giving their best effort during training, and showing courtesy towards fellow swimmers. Any disruptive behaviour may result in a swimmer being asked to sit out for the remainder of the session or having their position in the squad re-evaluated.
Please keep in mind that our Junior Squad does not offer refunds or make-up sessions for missed training sessions. Swimmers must purchase a membership through Swim Central to participate in our training program, and these memberships are valid from July 1st to June 30th each season.
