Mildura Swimming Club (MSC) is a sports club located in the beautiful Mildura Rural City in Australia. Dedicated to providing opportunities for swimmers of all ages and abilities, MSC is committed to helping members realise their dreams and reach their potential in both social and competitive swimming.
Since its establishment on November 3rd, 1910, MSC has built a proud association with swimmers competing at various levels including Country Championships, State, Age, and National competitions. Many other swimmers have also found success and satisfaction at local carnivals, finding joy in swimming at their chosen level.
What sets MSC apart is its emphasis on creating a family-friendly atmosphere. The club actively promotes a healthy mix of social activity and fun for all ages, ensuring that swimming is not only about competition but also about enjoyment and personal satisfaction. As a club run by its members, both parents and swimmers contribute to the success of the club through various activities such as fundraising, helping at carnivals, cooking at BBQs, and participating in club functions.
The history of MSC dates back to its founding by Mr. E. S. Creaton on November 3rd, 1910.
The club briefly folded during World War One in 1915 but was re-established on December 5th, 1919, and has been operating ever since. In the early days, swimmers trained and competed in Mr. Creaton's backyard pool, affectionately called “Creaton's Baths. ” The first competition held in Mildura was the 'Mildura Club Championships' on January 14th, 1911, which still continues to this day.
Throughout the 1910s and 1920s, Mildura Swimming Club emerged as a powerhouse in both Country Victoria and Victoria, often considered the strongest swimming club in the region. In 1924, the 'Mildura Baths' were constructed near the ornamental lakes on the Mildura Riverfront, providing one of the best swimming facilities in Country Australia. The club hosted the Victorian Country Championships on numerous occasions at this venue. Notably, Mildura's own Mr.
Ivan Stedman represented Australia at the Olympics in 1920 and 1924, winning two silver medals in the Australian 4×200m Freestyle Relay.
From 1955, MSC has been based at the Mildura Olympic Pool, which was built in preparation for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. Originally 55-yards, the pool was renovated in 2000, making it 50 metres long with the addition of an indoor 25-metre pool. The name of the facility changed to Mildura Waves Aquatic & Leisure Centre at that time.
For the 2023/24 season, MSC warmly welcomes new members. Prospective members can participate in one free trial training session, with no obligation to commit. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced swimmer, MSC believes that swimming is for everyone, and joining the club will provide a supportive environment where you can enjoy the sport and achieve personal satisfaction.
