The Gap Dragons Junior Australian Football League Club (JAFC) is excited to promote an upcoming local soccer event in The Gap. This thrilling opportunity allows children to participate in the exciting sport of AFL. With affordable registration fees and a complimentary playing guernsey provided for the season, parents only need to purchase shorts, socks, and footy boots.
To make things even more convenient, the club offers a hassle-free shopping experience for these items at their clubhouse. Online orders can also be picked up at the clubhouse. And if you're looking to show some team spirit, merchandise such as training tops is available for purchase as well. The registration fee, which includes payments to the AFL and the club, is already incorporated in the registration process via play.afl.
To keep parents informed about upcoming game details, locations, and timings, the season schedule, managed by AFLQ Brisbane Juniors, is easily accessible through the Gameday app available on iOS and Android. By downloading the app and adding The Gap Dragons JAFC, you can stay up-to-date with all the important information.
Auskick teams always play at Hilder Rd State School, while Auskick Play teams have both home and away games. The away games take place at Ferny Grove Falcons in Tramway St, Ferny Grove, and Everton Wolves in 93 Mott St, Enoggera. Our Junior Footy teams frequently compete against Ferny Grove and Everton, as well as other teams within their division. Throughout previous seasons, our teams have faced off against tough opponents such as Aspley, Kedron, and Mayne Tigers (Nundah).
Games are predominantly scheduled on Saturday mornings, although occasional Friday night games may also occur. The season kicks off on Saturday, April 27, with prior training for our Junior Footy players starting on Thursday, February 15. This training, held at our home ground, continues for seven weeks until the Easter school holidays. Regular season training then takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 4.30 to 5.30pm, starting on Wednesday, April 17. Auskick Play players also have their own training sessions on Wednesdays, from 4.30 to 5.30pm, starting on May 1, in preparation for their season start on May 11. Please note that there are no games or training during school holidays.
The Gap Dragons JAFC is a community sports club that greatly relies on the support of parents and other volunteers. We always welcome those who are interested in volunteering and contributing to our club. If you're looking to get involved, various positions are available. Feel free to discuss your willingness to contribute with our committee members.
For teenagers or adults looking for part-time paid opportunities, becoming a trained umpire for our Saturday morning home games is a great way to be part of the action. Starting from the Auskick/Junior Footy level, individuals aged 12 or older from January 1, 2024, can try their hand at umpiring while receiving payment from the Dragons. No prior knowledge or experience is required, as our club provides training, a uniform, and a whistle. New umpires will initially work alongside experienced umpires in Under 8's, gradually gaining experience and confidence. As the season progresses, they will also get the chance to officiate games for our Auskick Play participants.
At The Gap Dragons JAFC, we follow modified AFL rules, with variations in team and ground sizes as well as rules based on the age level. We have detailed matrices available for reference, which illustrate these modifications.
So don't miss out on the opportunity to join The Gap Dragons JAFC and give your child the chance to engage in the excitement of Australian Football League!
