The Gap Dragons Junior AFL Club is a vibrant and inclusive football club located in The Gap, a suburb of Brisbane, Australia. The club is based at Hilder Road State School, conveniently located at 104 Kaloma Rd. The club offers a range of programmes and opportunities for children aged 5 to 12 to participate in Australian Rules Football.
One of the club's flagship programmes is Auskick, an introductory programme designed to provide a fun and games-based learning experience for children aged 5 to 12. The 8-week programme runs on Saturday mornings from February 25 to April 29 and costs only $90 per player. Each participant receives a fantastic pack of footy goodies from AFL QLD, including their very own kid-sized footy. This programme serves as a perfect introduction to the sport and helps children develop their fundamental skills while having fun.
For those who want to continue playing after Auskick, the club offers Superstars Footy, a competition format tailored for children aged 5 to 7 at the start of the calendar year. This programme features short seasons of competition starting in mid-May. It provides a friendly and supportive environment for young players to further develop their skills and grow their love for the game.
The Gap Dragons Junior AFL Club also offers Junior Footy4Fun, which is the next step for kids who are ready to progress from introductory programmes like NAB AFL Auskick. This programme caters to mixed age-level teams from U8. 5 to U11. 5.
The AFL playing rules and team numbers are modified to ensure a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all participants. Footy4Fun provides the perfect environment for kids to learn through play, make new friends, and create lasting memories. The season runs from May through to the end of August, with pre-season training typically held on Saturday mornings from March and switching to Wednesday afternoon training sessions from 5-6pm during the season. Games are generally played on Saturday mornings.
The club is equipped with a convenient clubhouse and canteen facility, thanks to the support of Hilder Road State School, the Queensland Government, AFLQ, and local trade contractors. The clubhouse features toilets located behind the building for easy access. The canteen is open during home games, serving a variety of refreshments, including Merlo coffee, cold drinks, chips, bacon and egg rolls, and treats. Please note that dogs are strictly not allowed on the school grounds for the safety and comfort of all attendees.
Registration for The Gap Dragons Junior AFL Club is now open for both new and returning players. Returning players are encouraged to use the same email address as last season to ensure continuity of stats such as games played.
