Director and consultant for the students at Elevation Dance. She brings her years of experience and passion for dance to her classes, ensuring that her students receive excellent instruction and guidance.
The Jill Gregory School of Dancing has a long history in Sherwood, Nottingham, having been established in 1976. Over the years, the school has grown and evolved, offering a range of classes for children, teenagers, and vocational students. Ballet, tap, modern jazz, and acrobatics are all taught, providing students with a well-rounded dance education.
In 2016, the school celebrated its 40th anniversary, a testament to the dedication and expertise of its teachers. The school has always been a family-run establishment, fostering a sense of community and inclusivity. Jill Gregory's great-niece, Yasmin Stevens, has taken over many of the classes, having been a student at the school herself and teaching there for several years. Jill remains involved, teaching adult classes and serving as a consultant for the students at Elevation Dance.
The school has a strong emphasis on technical excellence and musicality. Students are encouraged to pursue examinations, initially with the British Ballet Organisation and later with the Association of American Dancing. In 2003, the school joined the BTDA, which has provided more diverse and engaging programmes of study and music. This has allowed the school to achieve even higher standards and attract more students.
In addition to its focus on technique, the school recognises the importance of enjoyment and creativity in dance. The tap classes, in particular, have embraced styles and steps from earlier eras, making choreography more versatile and enjoyable. This creates a fun and engaging environment for students to explore their love for dance.
All classes are held at Sherwood Community Centre, located at Woodthorpe House, the oldest building in Sherwood. There is a car park on site, making it convenient for students and their families. Opposite Woodthorpe Park, the location offers a beautiful setting for dance classes.
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced dancer, the Jill Gregory School of Dancing welcomes you to join their community. With a rich history and a dedication to excellence, the school provides a nurturing environment for dancers of all ages and abilities.
