The Iyoga Project, located in Darling Point, is a unique yoga studio that combines the practise of Iyengar Yoga with a strong focus on self-exploration and consciousness. The name “I”-Yoga Project represents the dual inspirations behind the studio the Iyengar Yoga method and the individual (“I”) practising.
The studio believes that yoga is a journey of self-discovery and self-management. It begins with building awareness of one's physical body and gaining insights into its strengths and limitations. This awareness extends beyond the physical aspect as students develop an understanding of the patterns that shape their daily lives. By knowing themselves better, they can make more informed choices and observe the consequences of their actions.
The ultimate goal is to cultivate a deep understanding and care for oneself.
The Iyoga Project encourages students to step out of their comfort zones and try new poses, sequences, and variations. This conscious exploration and observation bring a freshness and sense of honesty to the practise. It also aligns with the principles of Iyengar Yoga, which emphasises proper alignment, fundamental movement techniques, and mindful action.
Led by Tamar Kelly, a certified Senior Iyengar Yoga teacher, the Iyoga Project strives to empower students to take ownership of their practise and value themselves. Tamar's journey with Iyengar Yoga began after sustaining an injury while performing theatre in 1995. Fascinated by the physical and spiritual depth of Iyengar's method, Tamar underwent intensive training with esteemed instructors.
Having taught and trained in various locations around the world, including Sydney, New York City, and Warsaw, Tamar brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her teaching. She continues to deepen her understanding of Iyengar Yoga by regularly visiting India to study with the Iyengar family, to whom she is dedicated. Tamar's teaching is enriched by her passion for the arts and her contributions as a producer.
Iyoga Project welcomes students of all levels and aims to create a supportive and nurturing environment for growth. In addition to the studio in Darling Point, classes and workshops are held in various settings, including galleries, homes, conventions, and retreats both locally and internationally. With its emphasis on self-exploration and conscious practise, the Iyoga Project provides a unique and enriching yoga experience for all.
