The centre was established in 1994 by Monica Haar, a highly experienced and certified Advanced Junior 2 Teacher (Level 4) trained in accordance with BKS Iyengar's teachings. All the teachers at IYC are dedicated to upholding the principles and techniques of Iyengar Yoga.
Whether you are new to Iyengar Yoga or have practised elsewhere, the teachers at IYC will guide you in your practise. The centre offers a variety of classes suitable for all levels, ranging from foundation classes for beginners to workshops and intensives for experienced practitioners. The class levels and timetable can be found on our website to help you choose the level that suits you best.
One special class offered at IYC is the 60+ class, held every Thursday from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm. This class is designed for individuals of any age who may feel too stiff or challenged to attend other classes. It is a one-hour class that focuses on the foundations of yoga and uses props to assist in performing various asanas (poses).
For beginners, the foundation class is a great option. This class is held on Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm (General class during summer). It is suitable for individuals who are new to yoga and teaches the proper alignment and use of different props to enhance performance. Flexibility and age are not prerequisites for starting Iyengar Yoga, and the foundation class is the perfect way to begin your yoga journey.
IYC offers both in-studio and Zoom classes, allowing students to choose the option that suits their preferences. Payments for classes can be made in cash at the door or through the Dosh QR code on our website. Please note that no credit is given, and all payments should be made before class.
In addition to regular classes, IYC also organises workshops and intensives throughout the year. These workshops provide students with the opportunity to deepen their practise and learn from experienced teachers. Details of upcoming workshops can be found on our website.
