The Halifax International Shotokan Karate Federation – King's Dojo, located within the campus of King's College, is a traditional Shotokan style karate club that is dedicated to promoting the art of karate-do, the “Way of the Empty Hand,” as founded by Master Gichin Funakoshi to the community of the Halifax Regional Municipality. The original dojo, Dalhousie Karate Club, was established in 1979 and has since evolved into the esteemed Halifax ISKF, associated with ISKF dojos nationally and internationally.
At the helm of the King's Dojo are head instructors Sensei Tony Tam and Sensei Danny Tam, both 8th-degree black belts and the highest-ranking certified ISKF instructors in Eastern Canada. With over 49 years of teaching experience each, they bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to their students. The club offers classes for beginners as well as those with prior martial arts experience, emphasizing the importance of starting in the Beginner Class to learn the principles of ISKF Shotokan. The dojo's training and ranking system follows the standards set by ISKF, ensuring a comprehensive and structured approach to karate training.
