Free Water Park & Public Play Space, the local Swimming club in Petrie, is excited to promote a fantastic swimming event that is coming up!
The Moreton Bay Regional Council is hosting a series of 'Staying Safe' events in May as part of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month. These events are all about providing important information and support services to individuals and families who may be experiencing or witnessing abuse.
The events will cover a wide range of topics, including police and legal services, relationship counseling, and accommodation providers. The council is really committed to addressing and eliminating domestic and family violence, and they are all about promoting independence, challenging gender stereotypes, and fostering equal and respectful relationships.
One particularly helpful aspect of these events is that expert support will be available around tenancy issues for people who are experiencing domestic and family violence. This can be such a vital resource for those who are going through a difficult time and need guidance and assistance specific to their situation.
Another notable initiative from the council is the installation of their 14th Red Bench at The Esplanade in Deception Bay. This bench will serve as a permanent reminder of the presence of violence in all communities and the importance of taking action to prevent it.
To further raise awareness and engage the community, there will also be a virtual candlelight vigil held in collaboration with the Centre Against Domestic Abuse. This is an opportunity for everyone to remember and honour the lives lost to domestic and family violence. All you have to do is light your own candle and post a photo with the hashtag #LIVESLOSTDFV to participate.
These 'Staying Safe' events will feature guest speakers from various organisations that are dedicated to helping those affected by domestic and family violence. From Tenants Qld to the Queensland Police Service, Women's Legal Service Queensland, Relationships Australia, the Mate Bystander Program, and Broken to Brilliant, there will be a wealth of knowledge and support available.
If you're interested in learning more about the services that will be available at these events, we encourage you to visit the council's website. It's such a great opportunity to come together as a community, spread awareness, and support those who need it. So mark your calendars and get ready for a meaningful and memorable event!
