Haworth RDA's primary focus is to enable disabled riders in and around Yorkshire to learn and excel in horse riding, whether for leisure or competitions. The association was established in 2001, and over the years, they have strived to enhance their services by improving facilities and providing better rider support.
The association actively shares videos on their social media platforms, providing an insight into the impact of their work. This includes short films showcasing the inspiring journey of three-time Special Olympic medallist T-Jay Wilson, who highlights the supportive community that surrounds him. The videos also introduce other significant achievements, such as the RDA Young Volunteer of the Year 2019 and the RDA Rider of the Year 2018.
Haworth RDA's dedication to their cause has been further highlighted during the challenging times brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. With their lessons temporarily suspended, the organisation has faced financial difficulties as they rely on regular income to care for their horses and maintain the yard. In response, they have organised a safe, socially distant fundraiser where members can ride a mechanical horse called Penny for 45 minutes. This fundraiser is particularly significant for Amy, a rider who has benefitted greatly from her time with Haworth RDA, as it enables her to give back to the charity that has played such a crucial role in her life.
The association also provides a calendar of events on their website, showcasing the planned activities for the year. This includes musical ride practise, Easter coffee mornings, RDA national qualifiers, and even international events such as the Berlin World Show Jumping Championship taking place in June 2023.
Haworth RDA is committed to making a difference in the lives of disabled riders, providing them with valuable opportunities to build confidence, improve physical and mental health, and develop essential skills. With a focus on continuous improvement and support, they strive to create a nurturing environment for riders to thrive in their equestrian pursuits.
