About

Hey Team,

Julie from the organising committee has put together a warm little note for you all about the Hawke's Bay Trails. Here’s what she shared:

Julie invites everyone to experience Hawke's Bay Trails, a must-visit if you're in Napier, New Zealand. Part of Ngā Haerenga's 23 Great Rides of New Zealand, it's a place that offers more than just cycling – it’s a way to soak up the stunning landscapes and the rich local culture.

If you're keen on cycling, you're in for a treat. Jonathan Kennett, well-known in the NZ cycling scene, once said these trails are like a European cycling holiday right here at home. The trails are mostly flat and wide, perfect for cyclists of all levels. The region enjoys a mini Mediterranean climate, making it a great spot to enjoy some leisurely rides any time of year.

Just a heads-up – Cyclone Gabrielle did hit parts of the trails in February 2023, so about 30% of the most affected sections are currently closed for maintenance and safety reasons. Make sure to check their website or Facebook for the latest updates on which trails are open.

Julie suggests grabbing a map or downloading their app to help you navigate and make the most of your cycling adventure. The website is full of useful info about trip planning, including where to stay, bike hire options, and guided tours. You can even look at an interactive map of the trails to see what’s on offer.

Safety is important, and the website has tips and guidelines to keep everyone safe and sound while enjoying the trails. Julie hopes everyone follows these to have a great experience.

Beyond the trails, Hawke's Bay has so much more. There are fantastic wineries, a vibrant food scene, and loads of cultural experiences, including rich Māori heritage.

Hawke's Bay Trails runs smoothly thanks to the Hawke's Bay Regional Council and their partners, who work hard to maintain and improve the trails.

For updates and more info, you can check out their social media on Facebook and Instagram or read reviews on TripAdvisor. The regional council's contact details are also available if you have any specific questions.

Julie can't wait for everyone to come and enjoy the beauty and adventure of Hawke's Bay Trails. So gear up, plan your trip, and get ready to create some fantastic memories!

Cheers,
The Organising Committee
