Harewood Centennial Park, also known as Sherry Fields, is a vibrant community hub located in Nanaimo, British Columbia. This popular park offers a variety of amenities for visitors of all ages to enjoy. The park features an inclusive playground area with accessible swings, an “Orbit”/Merry Go Round, and a rubberised surface area that was added in 2022 to ensure inclusivity for all.
In addition to the playground, Harewood Centennial Park boasts hard surface courts, both covered and uncovered, for sports enthusiasts to enjoy. The Sherry Sports Fields are also located within the park, providing a space for team sports and recreational activities.
A major park update project is currently underway at Harewood Centennial Park. The first phase of the plan was completed in 2015, which included new playground equipment, a beginner Mountain Bike area, additional parkland, and utility upgrades. Subsequent phases have added a lacrosse box, covered space, and the Youth Park (skateboard park), which officially opened in 2020.
The Youth Park features a design that incorporates public art created by First Nation artists, Bracken Hanuse Corlett and Joel Good. The artwork honours the history of the area and adds a unique cultural element to the park. The skate park includes various street-style plaza facilities and a kidney-shaped bowl for skaters of all skill levels to enjoy.
Situated next to John Barsby Community School, Harewood Centennial Park is easily accessible and a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.
