Hallett Golf Club, located in The Regional Council of Goyder, offers a unique golfing experience in the picturesque countryside of Australia. The club was established before World War II and initially had a 9-hole golf course layout on the North Parklands. The clubhouse, which is now the tractor shed on North Terrace, served as the clubhouse in its early years.
During its early years, Hallett Golf Club had a strong membership base with close to 40 members. Mr. Bill Phin senior, who made significant contributions to the club, was made a life member. Other notable members included Mr.
Fred Gaskell, Jim Prior, Ben and Stan Longford, Frank and John Sullivan, Arthur Wright, George Eyers, Allan Parry, Alan Siegert, Eric Blight, and Bill Phin junior. The associate members, Sheila and Margaret Adams, also showcased their golfing skills by winning week fixtures in Adelaide and becoming State Champions when they were members of Looyonga.
After World War II, the club saw a decline in its membership, but it was reformed in 1960. Since then, the club has used the Tennis Club House as its headquarters. However, the associate members group was disbanded in 1974 due to decreasing numbers. Currently, the Hallett Golf Club is experiencing a gradual decrease in membership, but it continues to attract enthusiastic junior golfers.
Throughout its history, several dedicated individuals have played instrumental roles in the growth and development of Hallett Golf Club. Notable contributors include Bill Phin junior, Bob Hill, George Williams, Brian Richards, Neil and Harold Prior, Ray Affolter, and Colin Williams.
The Hallett Golf Club course, situated in the north parklands adjacent to North Terrace and the Recreation Ground, features a par of 68 for the nine-hole layout, with the late Stan Longford holding the record of 65 strokes. The club organises various events and tournaments throughout the year, such as the Bob Hill Trophy Stableford, Club Championship Stroke, and Longford Cup Stroke Handicap Match Play. Additionally, the club hosts trial days, opening days, eclectic events, par events, twosome aggregate events, better ball foursomes, and much more.
For those who appreciate the beauty of the countryside and enjoy the game of golf, Hallett Golf Club offers not only a challenging course but also a warm and welcoming club atmosphere. Whether you're a seasoned golfer or a beginner, Hallett Golf Club is a fantastic place to play, improve your skills, and enjoy the sport amidst the tranquil surroundings of The Regional Council of Goyder.
