Hallamshire Aikido Club is a well-established martial arts school located in Sheffield, New Zealand. The club offers classes in the Japanese martial art of Aikido and welcomes participants of all ages and skill levels, starting from 14 years old.
The club's history dates back to 1994 when it was founded by Steven Newton Sensei. Initially, the club was situated at Pond Forge Sports Centre in the heart of Sheffield before eventually relocating to its current venue at Brantwood Specialist School. Mark Headleand Sensei now leads the club and ensures the smooth running of classes and training sessions.
The training facilities at Hallamshire Aikido Club are top-notch, with the classes being conducted in a spacious Sports Hall that has ample mat space. Additionally, the venue provides changing facilities and toilets conveniently located just outside the Dojo.
When it comes to class fees, the club offers two options for payment. Casual or occasional members can opt for a cash 'pay as you go' option, with the standard rate being 8 per class and a concessionary rate of 6 per class available for under 18s, students, and unwaged individuals. For those who wish to train consistently, there is the option of paying through a standing order directly to the club. This method is billed at a monthly rate of 25 for standard members and 20 for concessionary members.
It's worth noting that months with five weeks of classes do not incur any additional costs, making it a cost-effective option.
Hallamshire Aikido Club is affiliated with Shobu Aikido UK association, founded by George Forbes Sensei. George has extensive experience in practising and teaching Aikido for over 35 years and has studied under various Sensei in different countries. His passion lies in the Aikido style practised by Nobuyoshi Tamura Shihan.
To ensure the safety of all participants, the club has implemented strict Covid-19 protocols. Following the guidelines set out by the British Aikido Board, all students are required to read and agree to the club's risk assessment before attending classes. Rapid Flow tests are also mandatory, and participants are encouraged to take them prior to each session.
