Girton Yoga is a hot yoga collective located in Cambridge, New Zealand. Specialising in hot style yoga, the studio offers a unique and beneficial practise to the community of Girton. The yoga series consists of 26 postures that are performed in a warm room, allowing practitioners to deeply connect with their practise and experience the benefits of stretching in a warm environment. The postures remain consistent and are always repeated in the same order, yet they offer a fresh and invigorating experience each time.
Girton Yoga welcomes individuals of all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners, as well as individuals of different fitness levels and ages. The practise is known for its strength and discipline, challenging participants while also being accessible to everyone. To ensure a successful and comfortable class, attendees are encouraged to stay hydrated throughout the day and avoid eating two hours prior to the session. However, it is important to note that this style of yoga is not suitable for pregnant women within the first three months of pregnancy.
After that period, it is only recommended for experienced expecting practitioners.
The studio offers classes on Mondays at 7 pm, providing a 60-minute session focused on the 26 postures. These classes take place at Cotton Hall, providing a suitable and comfortable space for individuals to immerse themselves in their yoga practise.
Girton Yoga prides itself on its team of passionate and knowledgeable teachers. Asif, one of the instructors, combines his background in yoga and martial arts to find mental and physical balance in all aspects of life. He first discovered yoga while competing at a national level, realising the perfect complement between the physicality of martial arts and the meditation and breathing techniques of yoga. Asif is motivated to help others by promoting mindfulness and wellness in society.
Outside of teaching yoga, he cherishes spending time with his family, travelling, and photography.
Shafiya, another instructor at Girton Yoga, has a scientific background and has always been intrigued by the human mind and body. Her interest in yoga began when she sustained a back injury and sought an alternative form of rehabilitation. Through consistent practise, she experienced the numerous benefits of yoga and recognised its potential to promote physical and mental wellbeing. Shafiya pursued a teacher training programme to share her knowledge with others and deepen her own practise.
As a mother, she appreciates the capabilities and challenges of the human body and is passionate about helping others find their calm.
With a serene and welcoming environment, Girton Yoga strives to create a sanctuary in the heart of Cambridge.
