Genius Wellbeing Yoga & Pilates, located in Eltham, is a sanctuary for individuals seeking to enhance their overall wellbeing. With a beautiful and spacious hall at St Margaret's Church on 81 Pitt St Eltham, this studio offers a serene and uplifting environment for yoga and pilates practise. Renovated by Robert Marshall, the mudbrick building embraces natural light, air, and a courtyard garden outlook, providing a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.
The studio can accommodate up to 18 people, although classes typically have 8 to 15 participants, ensuring a personalised and intimate experience. During the winter months, the studio remains cosy and warm, while in summer, it maintains a cool and comfortable ambiance. Ample easy car parking is available in front of the venue and across the road at Eltham Hotel, ensuring convenience for all attendees.
Genius Wellbeing is passionate about introducing individuals to the life-enhancing benefits of yoga and pilates. For beginners, they offer step-by-step introduction to foundation postures in their dynamic hatha yoga classes. Participants can enjoy increased energy, enhanced flexibility and strength, improved muscle tone, and greater concentration. These classes focus on easing shoulders, loosening hips, saluting the sun, performing foundation standing poses, and concluding with twists, forward bends, and deep relaxation.
In their mat pilates classes, participants can focus on core strength, spine lengthening, and joint flexibility. Beginners are welcome, and each exercise is explained with variations provided to suit different fitness levels. Resting positions are incorporated into the class to ensure participants always have time to recuperate. The benefits of pilates at Genius Wellbeing include a strong core, a healthy spine, long lean muscles, reduced tension, improved posture, flexibility, increased strength and tone of core muscles, relaxation of shoulders, neck, and upper back, and increased body awareness.
Genius Wellbeing offers both in-person and online classes, allowing individuals to choose the format that suits them best. The Eltham timetable is available on their online store, where participants can also make payments for classes. The studio encourages attendees to bring their own mat, block, and belt, although spare blocks and mats are available on-site. Resistance bands, yoga belts, 1 kg dumbbells, and squishy balls are provided by the studio.
Zoom Yogalates classes are also available on Mondays at 9:15 am, taught by Gillian, and other classes are taught by Murray.
In terms of attire, participants are encouraged to wear comfortable and unrestrictive clothing that allows freedom of movement. Shorts, track suits, leggings, or any other attire that makes attendees feel comfortable is suitable. It is recommended to bring an extra warm layer for the final relaxation portion of the class. Yoga and pilates are practised without shoes, although socks can be worn during pilates.
It is advisable to wait at least two hours after a meal before attending a class, or one hour after a light snack.
At Genius Wellbeing Yoga & Pilates, individuals are assured of feeling strong, supple, and grounded through the transformative power of yoga and pilates. Whether one is new to these practises or seeking to rekindle their practise, Genius Wellbeing provides a nurturing space for personal growth and enhanced physical and mental wellbeing.
