FACILITIES AND ACTIVITIES Friary Park Bowling Club offers a well-maintained and picturesque flat green lawn bowls facility located in the beautiful surroundings of Friary Park. The club boasts a comfortable clubhouse with a fully stocked bar, providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere for members to relax and socialise.
Members have access to the bowling green during designated open hours, which include Wednesday and Saturday afternoons from 1pm for “roll ups” and Sunday from 10am to 2pm for training. Additionally, members are permitted to play at other times/days during the season, unless the green is in use by others or undergoing maintenance. The club provides free tuition for both new and inexperienced bowlers, giving everyone the opportunity to learn and develop their skills.
Club membership at Friary Park Bowling Club is available to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. The annual subscriptions are reasonable and offer great value for money. Full membership costs 170 per year, with reduced rates of 100 for individuals aged 18 to under 30 as of May 1st. Junior membership for those under 18 is available for 50 per year.
There is also a small fee of 2 per session played, excluding certain competitions and the Club Championship. Prospective members are encouraged to attend the club and try out the game on the green for a few free sessions before committing to membership.
The club welcomes casual visitors who wish to play when the bowling green has spare capacity, subject to the discretion of the club. The fee for casual visitors is 5 per person per session. However, this option is not available “out of hours”.
When on the bowling green, it is essential to wear flat-soled shoes. To maintain the cleanliness and integrity of the green, members are required to keep a separate pair of shoes specifically for the bowling green, which should not be worn anywhere else. Club bowls, made from a hard plastic composite material, are available for loan to visitors and new members, and can also be purchased by members, subject to availability.
