Betty, the organiser, would like to share a brief update with the sports community about Farsley Cricket Club's proud history and ongoing activities.
Farsley Cricket Club boasts a rich heritage, having secured numerous accolades over the years. The club became Division One Champions in 1962 and clinched the Division Two title in 1969, 1977, and 2008. Their second teams have also seen success, winning the Division One title in several years, most recently in 2022. They've also lifted the Priestley Cup in 1963, 1983, and 1995, and have been runners-up multiple times.
The club's achievements extend to the Priestley Shield, with wins in 1951 and 1978, and a runners-up spot in 2021. Additionally, they were runners-up in the Crowther Cup in 2022.
The journey of Farsley Cricket Club began in the early 1860s with the formation of “Farsley United Cricket Club.” Initially playing on Calverley Lane, they moved to Priesthorpe Lane and finally settled at Red Lane in 1864, where they continue to play today. Over the years, the club has evolved its name and structure, becoming the Farsley Cricket Club Company, which still manages the club's operations.
Throughout its history, the club has produced some notable players who have represented Yorkshire County Cricket Club, including Irwin Grimshaw and Saul Wade. The club has also been active in local "Parish" matches featuring players from nearby areas.
Farsley Cricket Club offers opportunities for cricket enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels, with senior and junior teams available. The clubhouse, complete with a bar and kitchen facilities, is open for hire for various functions.
