Located in Etobicoke, the Etobicoke Junior Badminton Club is a badminton club catering to students in Grades 5 to 12. Founded over 40 years ago by Margaret and Roger Wallis, along with Barbara and Vic Simone, the club was initially established to provide an affordable opportunity for their children and friends to learn and play badminton. Since then, the club has grown to accommodate nearly a thousand students, offering a welcoming environment for players to develop their skills and enjoy the sport.
The club offers a comprehensive program running from mid-September to mid-June, with sessions held on Wednesday and Friday evenings at Martingrove Collegiate Institute. The club's offerings include a House League on Fridays for Juniors (Grade 5 to 8) and Seniors (Grade 9 to 12), as well as a House League on Wednesdays for Grades 7 to 12. Additionally, there is a High Performance program on Wednesdays for invited players in Grades 5 to 12, focusing on advanced skill development and tournament participation.
Led by Certified International Coaches, the club's sessions provide players with the opportunity to participate in in-house Doubles and Singles Ladders, as well as tournaments throughout the season. Players are encouraged to take part in a minimum of 2 local tournaments to further enhance their skills and competitive experience.
Under the leadership of Coach Willie Manalang, the club continues to thrive and provide a supportive and engaging environment for young badminton enthusiasts.
