Equistable is a Pilates studio located in Reading, offering a unique approach to treating and rehabilitating both horses and their riders. Established in 2019, Equistable is dedicated to balancing the relationship between horse and rider through a holistic approach.
The studio is run by Megan Rees, a highly experienced physiotherapist with a background in both human and veterinary physiotherapy. Megan's passion for treating horse and rider as a whole led her to become an Equipilates Biomechanics Trainer in 2016, focusing on addressing any weaknesses or asymmetries that may affect the horse's movement. In 2018, Megan obtained her APPI qualification in Rehabilitation Pilates, allowing her to provide exercise therapy and training advice to restore balance and harmony.
Equistable offers a range of services aimed at improving the well-being of both horse and rider. In terms of equine physiotherapy, they provide both inpatient and outpatient treatments for horses with various musculoskeletal issues. Their goal is to get horses back on track and ensure they are functioning at their best.
For riders, Equistable provides physiotherapy assessment and treatment to address any issues that may be impacting their position, posture, and performance. The studio also offers Physio Polework Clinics, where riders can join small groups for one-hour sessions to improve their horse's strength, suppleness, and balance. Mounted Clinics are available for those who want to focus on their riding position and posture, creating a more balanced seat and better connexion with their horse.
In addition, Equistable offers Physio Led Pilates classes both in-person and online, led by Megan herself who is a registered APPI Rehabilitative Pilates Instructor and EquiPilates Biomechanics Trainer. These classes aim to improve body awareness, symmetry, core control, and flexibility, benefiting riders and non-riders alike. Megan is constantly expanding her knowledge and has recently started incorporating Therapeutic Yoga into the classes.
Equistable also provides facility hire for those in need of a suitable space. They offer the purpose-built Nobby Woodford Lodge, a floodlit 26m × 52m arena with show jumps and mirrors, as well as a full set of show jumps on grass.
For individuals looking to enhance their overall fitness for riding, Equistable offers Ride Fitter classes. These cardiovascular and strength-based outdoor exercise classes are designed specifically to make participants stronger and fitter to ride.
Equistable is located at Bournefield Animal Rehabilitation Centre, situated at Bournefield Farm on Union Road in Bradfield, West Berkshire. They can be reached at 07809 170147.
