Edinburgh Community Yoga acknowledges and respects the roots of yoga, recognising that it originates from South Asian philosophical traditions and encompasses more than just physical poses. They understand that as Western teachers, their understanding, and practise of yoga may differ from the traditional teachings, but they are committed to upholding the philosophical underpinnings of the practise wherever possible.

As the most established yoga outreach organisation in the country, Edinburgh Community Yoga currently runs 16 outreach and socially prescribed yoga projects, providing yoga to approximately 350 people per month who may not have access to a yoga studio otherwise. Their inclusive approach welcomes students of all ages, ranging from 5 to 95, representing a diverse demographic across gender and ethnicity.

In addition to their outreach and community programmes, Edinburgh Community Yoga also offers a comprehensive workplace wellbeing programme, catering to high-stress environments. They provide mainstream yoga classes and training courses/modules for yoga teachers interested in their trauma-informed approach.

Their vision is for everyone in Edinburgh to have access to quality, trauma-informed yoga. Their mission is to empower people and communities by improving access to the therapeutic benefits of yoga, working across cultural, economic, and health barriers. They achieve this through public and corporate classes, retreats, teacher training, and outreach projects.
