Edgware Cricket Club, located in Edgware, New Zealand, has established itself as a prominent cricket club since its formation in 2015. The club was founded by Ciaran Hosty with the aim of creating a social cricket team comprised of local residents and friends from high school.
The club's inaugural game took place on July 4, 2015, against Watford Town Cricket Club at the Woodside Cricket Ground in Watford. It was a memorable occasion as Edgware emerged victorious with a 2-wicket win, thanks to a six hit by future star Sajith Sriwickramasekaran. This triumph not only marked the club's first-ever win but also forged a lasting friendship with Watford Town.
Initially, the club played a limited number of fixtures in its first season. However, the number of matches steadily increased to nine in 2016 and further expanded to 20 fixtures in 2019, which included a pre-season tour of Malaga, Spain. In 2018, Edgware joined the Chess Valley Cricket League, and in 2022, they became a part of the Hertfordshire Saturday Cricket League. Currently, the club boasts four teams, participating across both Saturday and Sunday cricket.
After spending their early years as a wandering side, Edgware now hosts their fixtures at various grounds, including the Edgware Cricket Ground (The ECG) in Mill Hill Village, Canons Park, and Watford Town Cricket Club for Saturday cricket. The club prioritises the development and enjoyment of cricket. Squad selection is done with the goal of providing players with ample opportunities to play. Players of all abilities are welcomed, and social members are encouraged to participate in the club's various social events throughout the season.
In terms of achievements, Edgware Cricket Club has an impressive collection of honours. They were crowned champions of the North London Cricket League Division 1 in 2016 and 2017. In 2018, they clinched the Chess Valley League Division 5 title and embarked on a tour of Canterbury, Kent. The following year, they achieved promotion to Division 4 of the Chess Valley League and embarked on a tour of Malaga, Spain.
In 2020, they embarked on a tour of Hastings and Brighton in Sussex, and in 2021, they toured Liverpool.
Edgware Cricket Club prides itself on its rich history, commitment to fostering cricket talent, and creating a friendly and inclusive environment for all members. Whether you are a seasoned player or a cricket enthusiast looking to get involved, Edgware Cricket Club welcomes you to join their community.
