The name Makotokan translates to the “House of Sincerity,” reflecting the dojo's commitment to sincerity, honesty, loyalty, and friendship.

Aikido is a modern martial art derived from ancient Samurai fighting techniques. Developed in the 1920s by Morihei Ueshiba, Aikido focuses on harmonizing with opposing forces rather than combatting them. The Yoshinkan style of Aikido, founded by Gozo Shioda Sensei, emphasizes the study of fundamental movements and solid basic techniques, as well as gaining philosophical insight into life and human relationships. Yoshinkan Aikido is non-competitive, non-violent, and promotes cooperation and harmony over aggression.

Whether you are looking to improve your physical fitness, learn self-defence techniques, or enhance your mental focus, East Coast Aikido in Timberlea is the perfect place for you. Join us today and experience the benefits of practising Yoshinkan Aikido in a friendly and welcoming environment.
