East Christchurch Shirley Cricket Club, founded in 1905, is a cornerstone of Christchurch cricket. Nestled at Burwood Park, it features top-notch grounds and a premier pitch, making it a favoured spot for cricket in the region. The club’s storied history includes former Black Caps Craig McMillan, Nathan Astle, and Michael Papps, alongside numerous Canterbury reps.
The club has also hosted English pros like Damian D’Oliveira, Mark Robinson, Dominic Cork, and Darren Gough. East Christchurch Shirley Cricket Club's premier Men's team competes in Christchurch Metro Cricket's top league, featuring two-day, 50-over, and T20 matches. Matches are mainly on Saturdays from 10:30 am to 6:00 pm, with some on Sundays. The season kicks off in early October and wraps up in late March, pausing for the holidays.
Training happens twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Burwood Park, with grass practice pitches. Both the top and 2nd teams train together, with potential coaching roles in junior teams or at local schools. Post-games, the squads unwind in the clubrooms, fostering team spirit in a friendly setting.
East Christchurch Shirley is proud of its excellent facilities and vibrant community, hosting various social events during the season to strengthen player bonds. The club welcomes new members of all skill levels and ages, aiming for an exciting cricketing journey.
