Chanonry Sailing Club is thrilled to announce the upcoming Dinghy Racing event, a local sailing extravaganza that all sailing enthusiasts in Fortrose and beyond won't want to miss! This exciting event will showcase both Open and Club events, making it a fantastic opportunity for everyone to get involved and enjoy some thrilling competition out on the water.
For our valued Club members, we have a series of exclusive Club events lined up that are sure to get your adrenaline pumping. These events include the highly anticipated Fraser MacKenzie Cup, MH Morrison Cup, Chanonry Trophy, Chanonry Quaich, Harbour Rosebowl, and Rosehaugh Cup Series. Taking place on the first and second Sundays and Wednesdays of each month, as well as the third Sunday, these races offer a range of challenges and excitement. The duration of each race varies depending on the wind and weather conditions, typically lasting between 30 and 90 minutes. And for those who are ready to take it to the next level, we have the thrilling Drysuit Diehards series, spanning over 5 to 11 days, with multiple races per day.
But that's not all! Our Dinghy Racing event also includes some iconic open events that are open to sailors from other clubs as well. One of the highlights is the Ness Cup Passage Race, a traditional open event where dinghies and cruisers set sail from the harbour to racing marks within the Inverness Firth. It's an incredible opportunity to explore the stunning surroundings while engaging in some heart-pounding competition. And let's not forget our Chanonry Cup, where a single handicap class will tackle two exciting races, pushing their skills and tactics to the limit.
We also have some standalone events for all sailing enthusiasts who want to experience the thrill of the race without committing to a series. On selected Sundays in May, June, September, and October, we have programmed exhilarating One-Day Races. These races offer a chance to compete for the Helen Morgan, Kevin Holliday, Richard Evans, Helen & Richard Jenner, Helen Robinson, AWS Ocean Energy, George & Sandra Hogg, and Miles Mack trophies. And if the weather permits, we may even start and finish some races on the water, which adds an extra layer of excitement and challenges.
As the season progresses, we have four Pursuit Race days planned from June onwards. Pursuit racing is an exhilarating form of competition where boats start at different times based on their speed, with the goal of crossing the finish line simultaneously. This format ensures fair competition between boats of different sizes and speeds, making it a truly thrilling spectacle for all involved. The racecourse consists of marked buoys, and finishing positions are recorded at the end, keeping everyone on the edge of their seats until the very last moment.
We highly encourage all sailing enthusiasts to volunteer and lend their support for these events. Your participation and assistance will contribute to the success and excitement of the Dinghy Racing event. So mark your calendars and get ready for some unforgettable moments out on the water with Chanonry Sailing Club!
