Jakes founded Danceworks in 1995 with the aim of fostering a passion for dance in children of all ages. As a highly qualified teacher herself, Laura ensures that all classes at Danceworks are taught by highly qualified staff.
Located in Moortown, Leeds, Danceworks offers a wide range of classes for both boys and girls. These classes include Ballet, Theatre, Tap, and Contemporary. The Ballet classes follow the Royal Academy of Dance programme, which is taught worldwide. Classes are tailored to each child's physical ability and age, with levels ranging from Pre-primary to Advanced.
The focus is on developing classical technique in a fun learning environment.
The Theatre and Tap classes at Danceworks cover various styles, including lyrical and street dance, and follow the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance syllabus. Classes are graded based on muscular ability and age, ensuring that each student is challenged and progresses at their own pace.
For older students aged 12-18, Danceworks offers Contemporary classes. These classes aim to deliver the core fundamentals of contemporary dance, which involves a mix of floor and travelling sequences. Students love the free flow of movement and the diversity of steps and music in these classes.
Danceworks also offers adult classes in Ballet and Contemporary dance. Whether you are a beginner or someone with previous dance experience, these classes cater to all levels. There are also Silver Swan classes specifically designed for adults over the age of 55, offering the core basics of ballet along with wellbeing and fitness in a friendly class environment.
In addition to providing classes at the studio, Danceworks actively supports the community by delivering classes to local Primary schools and local charities. The Leeds Rhino's Foundation and Sunshine and Smiles are among the groups that regularly benefit from Danceworks' outreach programmes.
If you are interested in joining Danceworks, free trial classes are available throughout the year. Simply book via email or contact the studio for more information.
