With a focus on teaching people of all ages, Cool Cats aims to create a fun, positive, and supportive environment for dancers to learn and grow.
At Cool Cats, the goal is to help dancers Take the Next Step in their dance journey, understanding that this will mean something different for every dancer. Whether it's gaining confidence with the first figures learned, having more fun on the dance floor, or delving into the intricacies of dance mechanics and technique, Cool Cats is dedicated to helping dancers achieve the most out of their dancing experience.
Cool Cats is passionate about keeping retro dance styles vibrant, and strives to provide the best for every dancer while giving back to the greater community. The instructors and assistants at Cool Cats undergo ongoing training, development, and evaluation to continuously improve their skills and knowledge, both in dance and non-dance aspects of teaching. This ensures that students receive the highest quality instruction and support.
Recognising the diversity of retro dance, Cool Cats aims to provide students with a solid foundation in the major dance styles, from which less common variants and specific stylings have derived. Each dance style is taught while remaining true to its fundamental form, while acknowledging that improved methods and techniques may exist due to continued dance development and understanding.
The instructors at Cool Cats are qualified through the Australian Rock 'n' Roll Dancesport Council (ARRDC). This qualification ensures that students receive knowledgeable and experienced teaching, providing them with a strong foundation in their dance journey. Regular class assistants also have the opportunity to pursue formal qualification through the ARRDC, further enhancing their skills and knowledge.
The principal instructor, Nathan Major, has been dancing since 1996 and turned professional in 2002. With qualifications in various dance styles, including aerials (lift-work), Nathan has competed successfully at State and National level competitions. He now regularly adjudicates at National events and takes pride in the competition efforts and achievements of the students he has coached. Nathan is committed to the future of swing, rockabilly, rock 'n' roll, and blues, and continues to develop his skills, qualifications, and passion to promote and inspire better dancing.
Cool Cats welcomes dancers of every description and looks forward to many more years of dancing with past, present, and future students.
