Cocks Moors Woods Central Aikikai is a renowned Aikido school located at Cocks Moors Woods Leisure Centre in Kings Heath, Birmingham. Established in 1984, it has been providing top-quality Aikido classes for beginners and advanced practitioners alike. The school is known for its high standards and is affiliated with the British Birankai organisation under the guidance of Master Chiba Sensei, with recognition from Hombu Dojo in Japan.
The Central Aikikai, which includes Ei Oh Kan and Tudor Grange dojos, is part of the Cocks Moors Woods Central Aikikai. Additionally, it has a strong association with Dornbirn Aikikai in Austria. The school prides itself on offering a friendly and welcoming environment for individuals of all backgrounds and experiences.
Beginners are highly encouraged to join the classes, which take place on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. The school also offers black belt instruction, making it suitable for all levels of expertise. Students can expect a comprehensive curriculum and expert guidance to help them progress in their Aikido journey.
The school boasts a team of experienced instructors. Sensi Mark Pickering, a 6th Dan Shihan, serves as the Chief Instructor of the Cocks Moors Woods dojo. He is a member and Chairman of the British Birankai Teaching Committee. Sensi Stuart Lovering, a 5th Dan Shidoin, is the Chief Instructor of the Tudor Grange dojo and also a member of the British Birankai Teaching Committee.
Sensi T Doxsey, a 2nd Dan Fukushidoin, serves as an Assistant Instructor at the Cocks Moors Woods dojo.
Classes at Cocks Moors Woods Central Aikikai are held at the Cocks Moors Woods Leisure Centre, located on Alcester Road South in Kings Heath, Birmingham (B14 6ER). Prospective students are advised to arrive 15 minutes before their first class for an introduction to Aikido.
Membership options are available for those who wish to continue their Aikido journey beyond the initial introductory classes. Adults pay 6 if employed and 5 if unemployed, while juniors pay 5 per class. After three weeks, students will be required to pay an annual membership fee, which is 45 for adults, 25 for unemployed/students, and 20 for juniors.
Students are recommended to wear sports clothing during classes, such as sports trousers that cover the knees and a t-shirt. As the classes take place on mats, footwear is not required.
