Gavin wants to share a note with everyone in the sports community about Charlton Kings Cricket Club. Situated just outside Cheltenham, the club is known for being friendly and community-focused. Recognised as a Focus Club by the ECB, it’s a go-to spot for cricket development, especially for kids and youngsters.
The club has earned its ClubMark accreditation, meaning it follows best practices for offering top-notch community cricket in a safe environment. Their senior section boasts four men's teams, two Midweek League teams, and a women's team. Men's training is every Thursday at 6pm and the women's team trains every Wednesday at 6pm.
In 2021, the 1st XI team celebrated winning the Gloucestershire Division 1 and now plays in the WEPL Gloucestershire league. They’ve got a good track record, having won the Gloucestershire Men's County Trophy in 2015 and 2019, and the Women's XI has been champion in the Cotswold District Cricket Association's Women's League in 2018, 2019, and 2021.
The club is particularly proud of its youth section, with teams in various age groups: U9, U11 (boys were GYL County Champions in 2015), U13 (boys also champions in 2015), U15 (boys were runners-up in 2015), U17 (boys were champions in 2015), and U19. They’ve also got expanding girls' teams at U11, U13, and U15 levels. Charlton Kings CC is all about nurturing young cricketers through its youth programme and eventually moving them up to the senior teams. There are limited spots for juniors due to safety reasons, so anyone interested should contact the club secretary, Vik Singh.
For adults keen on joining, either as players or in some other role, Gavin encourages reaching out to the club chairman, Kim Parsely, or Vik Singh for more details.
Charlton Kings CC is proudly sponsored and keeps everyone updated via social media with announcements, match fixtures, and results. Gavin suggests following their social media accounts for the latest news.
Overall, Charlton Kings Cricket Club is a welcoming cricket club that actively promotes the sport within the community, prioritises the growth of young cricketers, and provides opportunities for senior players across different levels.
