Welcome to the Centre de Tai Chi de la Mauricie. Founded by Diane Guillemette and Robert St-Onge, this martial arts school in Shawinigan is dedicated to the practice and teaching of Tai Chi Chuan. With approximately 130 students and two experienced instructors, Diane and Robert, alongside long-time student Jean who often assists, the centre offers a unique approach to Tai Chi as a serious form of training that goes beyond simply relaxation for the elderly or those in recovery.
At Centre de Tai Chi de la Mauricie, the focus is on traditional methods associated with the martial roots of Tai Chi Ch'uan, resulting in an extremely effective and safe exercise system that is accessible to all. By studying and applying Taoist principles at the core of Tai Chi, the balance between body, mind, and consciousness is emphasized. Combat and adversary are also parts of the training, with the primary opponent being loss of capacity and degeneration that often accompanies aging.
In addition to the physical and martial aspects, Centre de Tai Chi de la Mauricie fosters a sense of community among its members, striving to replicate a Chinese cultural practice where individuals come together daily to practice with a group. From the youngest to the oldest, from beginners to advanced practitioners, everyone is considered training partners, working collaboratively to progress together. The centre operates on the principle of open classes, allowing students to attend all classes at their level or a lower level at no extra cost.
The classes at Centre de Tai Chi de la Mauricie are conducted in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, ensuring that the two hours invested by participants yield all the benefits they can expect. Robert, Diane, and Jean are dedicated to providing a supportive environment for students to grow and develop in their Tai Chi practice. Thank you for your interest in our school.
