Capoeira Nativos London, situated in North London, is a distinguished capoeira school dedicated to fostering the rich art, culture, and lifestyle of capoeira locally and globally. Helmed by Mestre Aranha, an esteemed capoeira master, the school embraces Capoeira Contemporanea Regional, echoing Mestre Bimba's foundational movements of Capoeira Regional.
Under Mestre Aranha's guidance, Capoeira Nativos London merges disciplines such as sport, martial art, music, and body expression, offering a well-rounded approach to capoeira. Practitioners not only enhance their physical fitness but also cultivate discipline, mental balance, and positive habits applicable in daily life.
Mestre Aranha, known as Joelson Borges de Oliveira, embarked on his capoeira journey under Mestre Acutico in Brazil. Characterised by its nomadic essence, his early capoeira experience saw him traverse Brazil's notable capoeira centres and beyond. At 23, seeking knowledge and adventure, he travelled to North America, passing through significant capoeira sites including Salvador, Belo Horizonte, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Manaus, and Venezuela. His true mission crystallised in Colombia, where he dedicated 18 years to establishing capoeira as his profession.
In 1997, Mestre Aranha founded the first Capoeira Academy in Bogotá, Colombia, under “Nativos de Minas,” creating a formidable capoeira community across the country. Now based in London, he continues his legacy through Capoeira Nativos London.
The school hosts a variety of events yearly, including workshops, performances, and international capoeira congresses, offering students unparalleled opportunities to deepen their understanding, learn from renowned masters, and connect with the global capoeira community.
