About

Concrete platform at a depth of 6 metres and is a popular attraction for divers. With its charming and picturesque setting on the edge of the Lake District, Capernwray Diving Centre is the UK's finest inland dive site.

One of the standout features of Capernwray is its crystal clear water, providing exceptional visibility for divers. In fact, it boasts the second-cleanest recreational bathing water in the UK. This ensures that divers have a truly immersive and enjoyable experience, being able to fully appreciate the underwater attractions and marine life.

Speaking of marine life, Capernwray is home to an impressive stock of fish, making it a haven for marine enthusiasts. Divers can expect to encounter huge shoals of roach and perch, as well as friendly trout and the world-famous sturgeons, some of which reach six feet in length. The abundance of fish creates a vibrant and captivating underwater environment for divers to explore.

To cater to divers of all levels, Capernwray offers purpose-designed training platforms at various depths, ranging from 2 to 12 metres. These platforms provide ample space for divers to practise and refine their skills while enjoying the tranquil surroundings. Additionally, a jetty with two piers allows for easy entry into deeper waters, simulating hard boat recoveries.

The dive site also features a concrete slipway, providing convenient access to the training area platforms. Two clear, buoyed, and graduated training areas, equipped with non-slip platforms, are available at depths of 2 and 6 metres. These areas are perfect for divers to hone their techniques and build confidence in a controlled environment.

In addition to the training facilities, Capernwray offers numerous underwater attractions for divers to explore. Notable wrecks include the PODSNAP, a Dickens Class Harbour Minesweeper scuttled at Capernwray in 1995. Sitting at a depth of 18 metres, this 50-foot long vessel provides an exciting and challenging dive.

Another remarkable wreck is the Wessex Dragonfly Helicopter, which flew its first mission in 1943. After a long service career, it was acquired by Capernwray Diving and Leisure Ltd in 1996 and now rests atop the 'cave' at a depth of 14 metres. Divers can immerse themselves in history while exploring this iconic piece of aviation.

Capernwray Diving Centre is not just a place for diving enthusiasts; it also offers a range of amenities to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable visit. The on-site café provides a place to relax and refuel between dives, while the dive shop offers a wide variety of gear for purchase or hire. The friendly and highly-experienced staff are always on hand to assist and provide guidance, ensuring that visitors have a fantastic day, both above and below the water's surface.

With its stunning location, exceptional facilities, and captivating underwater features, Capernwray Diving Centre is the ultimate destination for divers seeking an unforgettable experience. Whether you are a seasoned diver or just starting out, you'll find everything you need for an incredible day of diving at Capernwray.
