Canterbury & District Angling Association

Canterbury & District Angling Association (CDAA) is a well-established fishing club located in Canterbury, New Zealand. With a history dating back to 1928, the association has been managing extensive fisheries in the Stour Valley, offering exceptional lake and river fishing experiences for a variety of species.

One of the highlights of CDAA is its historic stretch of the River Stour, leased from the Fordwich United Charities, which extends from Fordwich Bridge all the way to Plucks Gutter. The trout in this area were mentioned in Izaak Walton's renowned book “The Compleat Angler,” and their descendants can still be seen running up the river to spawn under suitable conditions.

The fisheries between Fordwich and Grove Ferry are located in a scenic environment of immense natural beauty and are part of an area designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). This designation has recently been upgraded to an International RAMSAR site, emphasising the ecological significance of the region. The association has entered into an agreement with English Nature to manage the fishery in the SSSI, with a commitment to conserving wildlife and natural vegetation. Any member found to be damaging the environment will face appropriate action from the association's Committee, which takes its conservation responsibilities seriously.

CDAA is proud to provide its members with a wide range of fishing opportunities, including both still waters and the River Stour. The association ensures that its waters are well-maintained and stocked to provide excellent fishing experiences. To maintain the health and well-being of the fish, CDAA has implemented measures to safeguard against the outbreak of K. H.

V (Koi Herpes Virus). As a result, no keepnets are allowed on any still waters, and dip tanks are available for nets, mats, and slings, which must be fully immersed for a minimum of 15 minutes. However, keep nets are permitted on the River Stour during the river season.
