Canterbury Ballet

Canterbury Ballet, founded by Taisia Missevich in 1979, has long been a cornerstone of dance education in Christchurch. Molly, the dedicated organiser, ensures that here, students have the chance to train in various genres like Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical, and Dance Acrobatics, catering to all skill levels from beginner to pre-professional.

The school not only focuses on creating skilled dancers but also strives to develop well-rounded individuals, leaders, and teachers. Its environment is both nurturing and supportive, allowing students to grow and learn alongside peers who share the same passion.

Canterbury Ballet is proud of its extensive alumni network, with past students often returning with their own children to begin the same dance journey. Graduates of the school are recognised for their strong technical and artistic abilities, standing out both in New Zealand and internationally.

One key feature of Canterbury Ballet is its exclusive use of the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) National Training Curriculum, being the only fully accredited school in New Zealand for this curriculum. This ensures students receive a comprehensive dance education aligning with international standards.

For those serious about a dance career, Canterbury Ballet offers a full-time programme providing intensive training in various styles, preparing students for auditions and professional opportunities. They also host a Summer School annually for students aged 5 to 18, covering genres such as Ballet, Repertoire, Contemporary, Lyrical, and Modern Technique.
