Cambridge Goju Ryu

Cambridge Goju Ryu offers classes for adults of all ages and abilities, as well as a Saturday morning class specifically designed for children. The club is run by Martin and Louise Stockley, both 5th Dan black belts, who have extensive experience in Goju Ryu karate. They are passionate about sharing their knowledge and expertise with the people of Cambridge and the surrounding areas.

During the classes, students have the opportunity to improve their general fitness and stamina through cardio workouts, stretching, and strength conditioning. The training also focuses on self-defence partner drills, which help students develop practical skills for real-life situations. The instructors emphasise the importance of kata, which is a sequence of moves practised as if fighting an imaginary opponent. Within these kata, there are various self-defence techniques that are taught and practised.

Cambridge Goju Ryu is affiliated with the Okinawan Traditional Goju-Ryu Karate-do Association (OTGKA). This affiliation ensures that the club adheres to the traditional principles and values of Goju Ryu karate. The instructors also regularly train with Sensei George Andrews, 8th Dan and chief instructor of the OTGKA, at the Honbu dojo in London.
