Bute Golf Club is a picturesque 9-hole golf course located on the stunning Isle of Bute. Situated near the sands of Stravannan Bay on the west side of the island, this hidden gem offers a unique golfing experience with breathtaking views of the dramatic Sleeping Warrior on Arran.
The Kingarth course at Bute Golf Club is the oldest on the island, having opened its doors to golfers in 1888. Designed by David Cuthbert of St Andrews, who was then the professional at Millport, the course provides players with an opportunity to experience the origins of the game. Despite its nine-hole layout, the course presents a range of challenges, including the tricky second hole that requires players to hit over a wall, and the burn at the short third hole, which is a favourite among the club's captain. The eighth hole also presents a unique test with its hillocks.
Measuring at 4,994 yards for two laps with a par of 68, the Kingarth course may be short, but it offers a genuine challenge. Golfers must navigate demanding shots, such as the perilous 147-yard par-3 third hole along the shore. The course not only provides great fun, but it also showcases stunning surroundings, making it a wonderful little tester for all golf enthusiasts.
Bute Golf Club warmly welcomes visitors to enjoy their golfing experience. Daily green fees are 15 for a day ticket, 10 for an evening round after 5pm, 5 for juniors (under 17 years old), and 7. 50 for members of the Firth of Clyde Golf Society. Additionally, the club offers annual membership options, with adult membership priced at 195 and junior membership priced at 15.
For those who prefer to join during winter (October to March), adult winter membership is available for 65.
Visitors are welcome to play at Bute Golf Club every day, but it's important to note that during the season, certain times are reserved for club competitions. These include Sunday and Tuesday afternoons from 2-3pm, Friday afternoons from 2-3pm, and Saturday mornings from 8:30-11:30am. Visitors are advised to check the Fixture List before booking to ensure availability.
To provide a seamless experience for golfers, Bute Golf Club introduced an online booking and payment system from 13th March 2023. This system allows players to book their rounds in advance and confirm their tee times by making the appropriate green fee payment. The green fee rates are as follows: 15 for day visitors/guests, 5 for junior visitors/guests (under 17 years old), 10 for twilight visitors/guests (after 5pm), and 7. 50 for visitors/guests who are members of the Firth of Clyde Golf Society.
Visitors playing more than 9 holes only need to make one booking for the day and can start their round at either the 1st or 10th tee, depending on their preference.
