Initially founded in 1902 and previously based on the river in Burton upon Trent, the club has now established itself at Foremark Reservoir as the leading destination for sailing in the area. Sprawling over 230 acres, the reservoir provides the ideal stretch of water for a thrilling sailing experience.

The club boasts a diverse membership of approximately 250 individuals, including ordinary, junior, and family members. Additionally, the club maintains group memberships with scout groups and several local colleges and universities, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.

The club has exclusive use of a well-appointed clubhouse, complete with a fully fitted galley, male and female changing rooms featuring hot showers, Wi-Fi access, a television, and a well-stocked bar. The dinghy park features a gradual gradient leading to a lawned rigging area, and a wide concrete slipway extending into the reservoir, allowing for easy launching. Burton Sailing Club embraces the spirit of friendly competition, offering regular club racing on Sundays and Wednesday evenings. Sunday racing takes place from March to December, while Wednesday racing occurs from April to September. The club also hosts annual open events for various dinghy classes, including Laser, RS Aero, RS Tera, Flying Fifteen, Supernova, 505's, OK's, and DYS intercounty events. Furthermore, the club often serves as the host venue for inland championships across different fleets.
