Burton Sailing and Windsurfing Club, located in Derby, New Zealand, is a vibrant and family-friendly club that offers a wide range of activities for sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts. The club has a diverse membership of approximately 250 individuals, including ordinary, junior, and family members, as well as group memberships with scout groups and local colleges/universities.
The club boasts excellent facilities to cater to the needs of its members. The clubhouse, which offers stunning views of the reservoir, features a fully fitted galley, male and female changing rooms with hot showers, Wi-Fi, television, and a well-stocked bar with both wet and dry lounge areas. For those who prefer to relax while watching the activities, there is ample seating available on the adjacent patio area. Additionally, there is a children's play area located near the clubhouse.
A short walk from the clubhouse leads to the large dinghy park, which can accommodate approximately 400 boats. The dinghy park, situated on a gentle slope, provides easy access to a lawned rigging area and a wide concrete slipway that extends into the reservoir, making launching hassle-free. The club also offers a long pontoon for mooring. The modern club training centre, located towards the rear of the dinghy park, is extensively used during training and coaching sessions.
Burton Sailing Club hosts regular club racing events on Sundays from March to December, as well as Wednesday evenings during the summer. In addition to club racing, the club organises annual open events in various dinghy classes. Each year, the club welcomes visiting classes such as Laser, RS Aero, RS Tera, Flying Fifteen, Supernova, 505's, OK's, and also hosts DYS intercounty events. The club often serves as a venue for inland championships for different fleets.
